The finalists for the prestigious Milward Simpson Award in 2022 got announced on Monday.

This honor is given to the most outstanding male and female student-athletes in the state. It is considered the most prestigious award a prep athlete can earn in their high school career.

This year’s honor, the 47th, will be presented at a luncheon on June 18, 2022, in Cody, at the Cody Auditorium Club Room.

Here's some information on the finalists compiled by WyoPreps.

GIRLS FINALISTS

Brice Hansen, Lyman High School

Hansen was an all-state performer in volleyball, basketball, and track and field. She helped the Eagles win a state championship in volleyball in 2021, was the Class 3A state discus champion in 2021, and helped Lyman to runner-up finishes at the state basketball tournament in 2019, 2021, and 2022.

Alesha Lane, Natrona County High School

Lane was an all-state performer in volleyball, basketball, and indoor and outdoor track and field. She was a four-time track and field state champion. Lane won the 2021 discus title at the outdoor track state championships. She took first place in the shot put at the 2022 indoor track state championships. Lane was a double-event winner at the 2022 outdoor track state meet, as she finished first in the shot put and discus.

Demi Stauffenberg, Lander Valley High School

Stauffenberg was an all-state volleyball and basketball player. She also played soccer for the Tigers. Stauffenberg helped Lander Valley win the Class 3A girls soccer state championship in 2021. She was selected to the North Team for the WCA All-Star basketball and volleyball games. Stauffenberg will play in the volleyball match. She also received the Bob Carey Award.

Jordan Stoddard, Southeast High School

Stoddard was all-state in volleyball, indoor and outdoor track and field. She is a 12-time state champion between indoor and outdoor track and field. Stoddard won all four of her events at the 2022 outdoor track state championships last month.

Alexis Stucky, Laramie High School

Stucky was a four-time all-state player and two-time Gatorade Wyoming Volleyball Player of the Year. She led Laramie High School to two Class 4A state volleyball championships. Stucky earned All-American honors as a senior and was the Under Armour Next All-American Game MVP. She graduated from high school early and has already completed a semester at the University of Florida. Stucky was recently selected to the USA Volleyball U21 National Team.

BOYS FINALISTS

Cameron Burkett, Kelly Walsh High School

Burkett was all-state in football, indoor and outdoor track and field. Burkett ran for over 1,000 yards in both his junior and senior seasons. He helped the Trojans reach the semifinal round of the 2020 Class 4A football playoffs. Burkett was the runner-up in the shot put at the 2022 indoor track state championships. He won the shot put at the 2022 outdoor track state meet with a new state record toss of 65-10.25. Burkett was runner-up in the discus at the 2022 outdoor state championships.

Jonny Kulow, Lander Valley High School

Kulow was a four-time all-state swimmer for the Tigers. He helped Lander win the Class 3A boys’ state team championship all four of his years, which extended their streak to 26 consecutive titles. Kulow won 15 state championships in his four-year high school career. He was ranked the No. 1 swimmer in Wyoming over the last three years. Kulow also swam in the Olympic Trials in the summer of 2021 in the 50-meter freestyle race. He has signed with Arizona State University to swim for the Sund Devils starting this fall.

Carter McComb, Sheridan High School

McComb was an all-state performer in football, indoor and outdoor track and field. He was a part of eight state championships at Sheridan High School. McComb helped the Broncs to state titles in 2019 and 2021 on the football field. He was a part of four consecutive indoor track state championships. McComb helped Sheridan win the last two Class 4A boys outdoor track team titles. He won two individual state championships and was on a first-place relay at the 2022 outdoor track state meet. McComb won two individual events and was on two winning relays at the 2022 indoor track state championships. He won two more state championships on relays in indoor track during his prep career.

Kade Preuit, Wheatland High School

Preuit was all-state in football, basketball, and outdoor track and field for the Bulldogs. He’s also played American Legion Baseball for the Wheatland Lobos. Preuit was a two-time all-state football player. He led Class 2A in passing during the 2021 season and a semifinal berth in the Class 2A football playoffs. Preuit was also a two-time all-state player on the basketball court. He surpassed 1,000 points during his high school career during the 2021-22 season. He led Class 3A in scoring at 24.1 points per game, which was tied for second in the state. Preuit also ran a leg on a state championship relay during the outdoor track state meet last month for the Bulldogs.

Texas Tanner, Sheridan High School

Tanner was all-state in football, indoor and outdoor track and field. Tanner helped the Broncs to a state football championship last fall (2021). He was all-state on the defensive line. Tanner was the state champion during indoor track in the shot put with a toss of 58-10 in 2022. He also captured the discus state title in Class 4A boys with a toss of 194-02. That was nearly 28 feet further than the runner-up. Tanner took second in the shot put behind Burkett.
