The 2023 Wyoming American Legion Baseball Class A State Tournament is in Sheridan on July 26-30.

This is an eight-team, modified, double-elimination bracket. The Cody Cubs are the three-time defending Class A State Champions. The Cubs have won seven of the last nine state titles.

Here’s the full schedule for the 2023 Single-A State Tournament. All games will be at Thorne-Rider Park in Sheridan.

Wednesday, July 26:

Final Score = Game 1: (W2) Cody Cubs 10 (E3) Torrington Tigers 3 - The Schroeder brothers combined to hit for the cycle. Thomasson went 4 inns. for the win on the mound. Carlson also homered for Cody. Shields had 3 hits in the loss for the Tigers.

Final Score = Game 2: (E1) Douglas Cats 10 (W4) Green River Knights 9 - Cats win on a walk-off error in the bottom of the 7th. Boyson had 3 hits & 2 RBIs to pace Douglas.

Final Score = Game 3: (E2) Casper Drillers 2 (W3) Lovell Mustangs 1 - 2 runs in the 5th gave the Drillers the comeback win. Galles had 1 hit & 1 RBI for Casper. Files had 1 hit & 1 RBI for Lovell.

Final Score = Game 4: (W1) Powell Pioneers 7 (E4) Sheridan Jets 1 - the Pioneers jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 2 inns and never trailed. Queen had 1 hit & 3 RBIs. Johnson contributed 3 hits and Schwahn added 2 hits & drove in 1. Destefano had 1 hit & 1 RBI for Sheridan.

Thursday, July 27:

Final Score = Game 5: Torrington Tigers 11 Green River Knights 8 (8 inns.) - the Tigers rallied from an 8-4 deficit. They tied it in the 6th with 4 runs and then won it with 3 in the top of the 8th. Torrington used a single, an error, & a sacrifice fly to take the lead. GR got 2 guys on in the 8th but a flyout ended the game. Firminhac had 2 hits & 4 RBIs for Torrington. Lail had 2 hits & 2 RBIs for the Knights. (Green River eliminated)

Final Score = Game 6: Lovell Mustangs 14 Sheridan Jets 7 - the Mustangs broke a 5-5 tie with 6 runs in the 4th. Rodriguez & Wright had 3 hits & 3 RBIs apiece. (Sheridan eliminated)

Final Score = Game 7: Cody Cubs 17 Douglas Cats 5 - Cats took a lead in the bottom of the 3rd, 4-2, but Cody scored 1 in the 4th, and 2 in the 5th to take the lead for good. Cubs scored 12 runs in the last two innings to ensure the win.

Final Score = Game 8: Powell Pioneers 9 Casper Drillers 2 - the Pioneers jumped out 3-0 and never trailed. Casper pulled within 3-2, but that's as close as they got. Powell scored the final 6 runs of the game. Stenerson had 2 doubles & 2 RBIs. Johnson added 2 hits (3B) & 2 RBIs. Parks had 1 hit & 2 RBIs for Casper.

Friday, July 28:

Final Score = Game 9: Douglas Cats 15 Lovell Mustangs 3 - the Cats led 5-0 thru 2 innings and never looked back. Spence had 2 hits, including 1 HR and 6 RBIs. Johnson & Kejr both had 2 hits & 2 RBIs. (Lovell eliminated)

Final Score = Game 10: Torrington Tigers 1 Casper Drillers 0 - Long had an RBI single in the 7th for the Tigers. Hibben tossed a 1-hit shutout with 5 Ks and 3 walks. (Casper eliminated)

Final Score = Game 11: Cody Cubs 17 Powell Pioneers 0 - the Cubs scored 3 in the 1st, 6 in the second, and capped it with 7 in the 5th. Jarrett had 3 hits & 2 RBIs and J. Schroeder added 2 hits & 3 RBIs. Cody also took advantage of 11 walks. The Cubs clinched a spot in the championship game on Sunday.

Saturday, July 29:

Pairings for these two games will not match previous opponents against each other.

Final Score = Game 12: Powell Pioneers 13 Douglas Cats 12 - in a wild back-and-forth game, Powell pulls it out with 3 runs in the top of the 7th. The Pioneers jumped out 9-0. Douglas responded with 12 runs in the 3rd. Powell scored on a groundout, a bases-loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly. Schwahn and Queen had 2 hits & 2 RBIs apiece. Spence had 2 hits & 4 RBIs for Douglas. (Douglas eliminated)

Final Score = Game 13: Cody Cubs 4 Torrington Tigers 1 - the Cubs took an early 1-0 lead. The Tigers tied it in the 5th. Cody scored 1 in the 6th and 2 in the 7th for the final margin. Thomasson had 3 hits, while T. Schroeder, Carlson, and Bailey had 1 RBI each for the Cubs.

(Note: If 3 teams remain with one loss after Game 13, the winner of Game 11 will automatically be drawn into Game 14)

Sunday, July 30:

Final Score = Game 14: State Championship Game #1: Powell Pioneers 7 Cody Cubs 6 - a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch in the bottom of the 10th inning won it for Powell. The game had 4 lead changes. The Pioneers took a lead on a Stenerson HR, but the Cubs tied it in the 7th on a Carlson RBI single. Stenerson had 2 hits & 4 RBIs. Thomasson & Reinker drove in 2 runs each for Coby.

Final Score = Game 15 (If necessary): State Championship Game #2:

Powell Pioneers 16 Cody Cubs 14 - a 9-run bottom of the 5th put Powell in front for good after they trailed 8-6. Brock Johnson hit the go-ahead 3-run HR. He had 3 hits & 4 RBIs. Trey Stenerson had 3 hits & 2 RBIs. All 9 runs the Pioneers scored in the 5th came with 2 outs. The Cubs rallied with 6 runs over the final 2 innings but fell short of a 4-peat. Phillips had 4 hits (HR) & 3 RBIs for Cody.

The stage is set to see who advances to this year’s Northwest Class A Regional Tournament (NWCART) in Havre, MT, on Aug. 4-8, 2023. Wyoming’s state champion will be the lone representative at the tournament.
