2023 Wyoming High School Track and Field State Championship Preview
The 2023 Wyoming High School State Track Championships are Thursday through Saturday in Casper.
Girls’ and boys’ teams from around the state will compete across all four classifications at Harry Geldien Stadium located at Kelly Walsh High School.
The defending girls’ team champions are Saratoga, Tongue River, Powell, and Cheyenne Central. On the boys’ side, 1A will have a new champion, while Tongue River, Lander, and Sheridan won the other three classes last year.
Several individual state champions returning from the 2022 state track meet. These are broken down by classification.
In Class 1A Girls: Karcee Maya (Kaycee) in the 400 meters; Bryli Groll (Cokeville) in the 800 & 1600 meters; Madison Teichman (Saratoga) in the 3200 meters; Whitney Bennett (Saratoga) in the 300 hurdles and triple jump; Angie Logsdon (Southeast) in the pole vault; and Shelby Ekwall (Southeast) in the shot put.
*Vaidyn Vanderploeg (Riverside) won the 100 & 200 meters in 2A last year. Riverside is a Class 1A school this year.
In Class 1A Boys: Grant Bartlett (Saratoga) in the 1600 and 3200 meters; Tanner Brown (Cokeville) in the 110 hurdles; Clayton Edwards (Burlington) in the high jump; and Quade Jordan (Encampment) in the shot put and discus.
In Class 2A Girls: Peyton McLaughlin (Big Horn) in the 300 hurdles; Alyssa Slade (Pine Bluffs) in the high jump; Carly Moore (Wright) in the pole vault; and Kate Mohrmann (Big Horn) in the triple jump.
*Izzy Spears (Lingle-Ft. Laramie) won the discus in 1A last year. Lingle-Ft. Laramie is a Class 2A school this year.
In Class 2A Boys: Jaycee Herbert (Wind River) in the 100 & 200 meters; Colby Jenks (Big Piney) in the 800 & 1600 meters and the 300 hurdles; Al Spotted (Tongue River) in the 3200 meters; Hunter Fisher (Big Piney) in the 110 hurdles; Aiden Reece (Greybull) in the high jump; Jackson Hanusa (Rocky Mountain) in the pole vault; and Kelden Boettcher (Rocky Mountain) in the triple jump.
*Loudon Bremer (Lingle-Ft. Laramie) won the 300 hurdles in Class 1A last year. LFL is a Class 2A school this year.
In Class 3A Girls: Lily Nichols (Wheatland) in the 400 & 800 meters; Ryann Smith (Rawlins) in the 1600 meters; Eva Nitschke (Rawlins) in the 100 & 300 hurdles; Mya Hutchings (Mountain View) in the high jump; Mylie Micheli (Mountain View) in the pole vault; Sage Bradshaw (Lyman) in the long jump; and Katy Dexter (Pinedale) in the shot put & discus.
*Mallory Jones (Moorcroft) won the 800 and 1600 meters in 2A last year. Moorcroft is a Class 3A school this year.
*Ann-Marie Young (Glenrock) won the discus in 2A last year. Glenrock is a Class 3A school this year.
In Class 3A Boys: Brendan Flock (Torrington) in the 200 meters; Owen Burnett (Kemmerer) in the 1600 & 3200 meters; and Gage Gose (Lander) in the 110 & 300 hurdles.
In Class 4A Girls: Ella Spear (Natrona County) in the 400 meters; Sydney Morrell (Cheyenne Central) in the 3200 meters; Abi Milby (Kelly Walsh) in the pole vault; and Taliah Morris (Cheyenne East) in the long jump.
In Class 4A Boys: Mason Weickum (Natrona County) in the 110 hurdles; Kaiden Lee (Natrona County) in the high jump; and Richard Prescott (Cheyenne Central) in the triple jump.
The state track championships begin at 3 p.m. on Thursday. They will finish at approximately 6:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday’s action starts at 9 a.m. Friday will be done around 6 p.m., while Saturday will wrap up at about 4:30 p.m.
The track meet will run on a timed schedule.
