The Sheridan Broncs have become the gold standard of Class 4A football in Wyoming. They won their fifth title in the last seven seasons in 2021.

A lot of crucial personnel departed with last year’s senior class, but if there’s one thing we’ve learned over the previous decade about the Broncs, they don’t rebuild, they reload. If there is a common theme, it's last year is over, and it's time to move forward with a new season.

Led by reigning Gatorade Player of the Year and all-state running back Colson Coon, Sheridan will have a great starting point. A couple of other key returners will be Mathew Ketner and Dane Steel, who each received some all-conference honors last fall.

The Broncs were our third stop on the WyoPreps Preseason Football Tour. We spoke with Ketner and Coon, a pair of seniors, plus head coach Jeff Mowry about Sheridan’s outlook for this year. All three stated that with the youth that the Broncs have, where they start won’t be the same as where they finish. They stressed the learning going on now, plus coming together as a team and communicating, as key parts to having another successful season.

Sheridan begins its defense of the state championship at home next Friday, Aug. 26, when they host the Cheyenne Central Indians.
