Hailey Mathis-Breitkopf of Cheyenne Central High School is the WyoPreps Athlete of the Year Award winner for girls’ tennis in the 2024-25 school year. The honor is presented by Premier Bone and Joint Centers of Wyoming. Mathis capped a perfect season with a state title in Gillette and another all-state award.

Mathis-Breitkopf went undefeated during the 2024 fall high school tennis season. She finished with a record of 19-0 and did not drop a set all season. After a 12-0 regular season, Mathis-Breitkopf went 3-0 at the South Regional Tennis Championship in Green River and Rock Springs and lost only one set. At the state championships in Gillette, Hailey won all four matches in straight sets. That included winning her last three sets without dropping a point (6-love or 6-0). She defeated Caroline Brokaw of Jackson in the final, 6-0 and 6-0. It was her third state title in high school, the first at No. 1 singles after two at No. 2 singles. Mathis-Breitkopf helped Cheyenne Central win the team championship with 61 points. That was 25 points more than the runner-up team.

Thanks to her title, Mathis-Breitkopf earned all-state honors for the third time in her prep career.

Hailey visited with WyoPreps’ David Settle, who presented the award, in a video interview. Mathis-Breitkopf was very appreciative of the honor, discussed how her season went this fall, the pressure to stay perfect throughout the year, how her teammates helped on and off the court, what she tried to improve on the court to help her game and more.
