Cheyenne East’s Taliah Morris swept the first WyoPreps Athlete of the Year awards for Girls’ Indoor Track and Field and Outdoor Track and Field. The honor was presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wyoming and Wyld Gear. Morris won six individual state championships, set five state records, and helped her team to an indoor title and runner-up finish in the outdoor season. She consistently performed at a high level through both the indoor and outdoor track seasons.

Morris won three events and set two overall state records at the indoor track state championships in March. She won the 55-meter dash in 7.16 seconds. Morris added a victory in the 200 meters with a new record time of 25.11 seconds. Finally, Taliah bested her record in the long jump with a leap of 19-6.50. That helped the Thunderbirds win their second girls’ indoor track team state championship. In the outdoor season, Morris continued her excellent senior season. She capped it with three more individual state crowns. Morris crossed the finish line first in the 100-meter dash and set a record at 11.68 seconds. She followed that up with a victory in the 200 meters and another record at 23.45 seconds. Perhaps her greatest effort came on the first day of the state track meet when Morris set a new state record at 20-8.50 in the long jump. She also ran the anchor leg on East’s runner-up 4x100 meter relay team. Her efforts helped the Thunderbirds take set in the 4A girls’ team standings.
