Hulett junior Kyle Smith passed 1,000 points earlier this month. He joined the club on Feb. 8 at No. 1 Upton. It was part of his 21-point effort for the Red Devils. Smith scored 69 points in three games that week, as Hulett went 2-1.

Smith is an all-state and two-time all-conference selection at HHS. The junior is a three-year starter and letter-winner for the Red Devils. Smith is averaging 24.5 points per game and shooting 46 percent from the field this season. He adds 4.9 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 4.6 steals per game. Smith had led the Red Devils in scoring every game during the 2024-25 season. He shoots 34 percent beyond the arc and 66 percent from the free-throw line. Smith has helped Hulett to an overall record of 11-5 and a 6-2 mark in the 1A Northeast Conference.

As a sophomore last year, Smith averaged 17.2 points per game and shot 45 percent in the 2023-24 season. He was second in Class 1A at 4.8 assists and 4.1 steals per game. Hulett finished at 12-11 last year. In his freshman season of 2022-23, Kyle averaged 13.2 points, 4.8 steals, and shot 50 percent on field goals. That helped the Red Devils to a 14-9 record and an appearance at the 1A basketball state tournament.

Smith also plays football at Hulett High School and was an all-state player for the Red Devils in the 2024 Class 1A 6-man football season.
