Two standout girls’ basketball players in Wyoming have passed 1,500 career points this season. Cody senior Molly Hays and Douglas junior Lauren Olsen joined some elite company when they exceeded the total earlier this year. They are the 28th and 29th players in state history to reach that mark in Wyoming High School girls’ basketball, according to records kept by wyoming-basketball.com.

WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL SCORING ACHIEVEMENTS

Olsen accomplished the feat on Jan. 19, 2024, against Rawlins. She needed eight points in that game, and despite being under the weather most of the week, Olsen scored 11 points to pass 1,500. Lauren is at 1,762 career points entering the 2024 postseason. That places her 13th all-time in state history. She has more games this season and another year to continue to move up the list. Olsen has helped Douglas to a 21-0 record in the 2024 season and the top seed from the Southeast Conference at the 3A East Regional Tournament this weekend in Rawlins.

Hays surpassed the mark during a game against Green River on Feb. 10, 2024. The senior scored a game-high 24 points in that contest. Hays has 1,598 career points entering the 2024 postseason. That places Molly at No. 21 in career points for girls’ prep basketball in Wyoming. Hays has led the Cody Fillies to an 18-1 overall record in the 2024 season. They are the top seed from the Northwest Conference at the 4A West Regional Tournament this weekend in Green River. Cody is the defending Class 4A girls’ basketball state champion. Hays is also the reigning Gatorade Wyoming Girls Basketball Player of the Year. After her high school career, she will play basketball at Idaho State after signing her National Letter of Intent last November.

Congratulations to Ms. Olsen and Ms. Hays!
