Now that most teams have started conference play, some new contenders are starting to emerge in the newest coaches/media rankings.

In 4A boys, #1 Laramie and #2 Gillette renewed their state championship rivalry this past weekend, and ended up settling for a draw, thus they did not move in the rankings. Central is starting to garner some attention and have moved up to #3. Green River made the most noise, by starting their season with a back-to-back road sweep of the Casper teams. As a reward, the Wolves were given the #4 spot. Sheridan slipped a couple of spots to #5, after laying an egg vs. Laramie last weekend. The Broncs need to recover this week, because they will play in enemy territory against Gillette on Friday.

Not much change in 3A boys, but the rankings might suggest that some teams might want to check schedules to see what's down the road. Jackson was off last week and this week, but still retain the #1 spot. Buffalo retains the #2 position, and already some are wondering what if that snowstorm had not interfered, with their scheduled clash 2 weeks ago? Lander holds at #3, while Powell moves ahead of Star Valley to #4, bumping the Braves down to #5. Most teams are out on spring break this week, so there's not much excitement on the schedule.

Both of the girls polls have new #1's this week. East earned it in 4A, with their OT win at Central last week. The Lady Indians fall to #2, and have to share that spot with a Laramie team, that has only given up 1 goal so far this season. Sheridan falls to #4 after getting shut out by the Lady Plainsmen last week. Like the boys, the Green River girls are ranked, after starting the season with a weekend road sweep vs. the Casper teams. The Lady Wolves are currently ranked #5.

It was a close vote in the 3A ranks, but Cody swipes the #1 ranking away from Worland by 1 vote. It's early in the season though, and the 2 teams have to meet up twice, so there's not much to worry about right now. Lander holds at #3, while Star Valley slips to #4, after a tough loss at Cody last weekend. Buffalo is still ranked #5, but the Lady Bison have a great chance to move up, because they host the top ranked Fillies this Saturday.
