Boys Rankings Change More Than Girls in WyoPreps Soccer Polls
Coming off the first weekend of the season, change was expected in the second WyoPreps Coaches and Media Soccer Polls.
There is a new No. 1, three new teams in the rankings, and a big leap by a boys’ team.
The change at the top happened in 3A boys. Powell is the new top-ranked team by six points in the voting. The Panthers played last weekend while defending champion Worland has yet to play. Both teams earned six first-place votes, but the Panthers got one more second-place vote for the difference. The rest of the 3A boys poll is the same. Torrington, Lander, and Cody at third, fourth, and fifth, respectively.
In 4A boys, Rock Springs made the jump from unranked to third this week. The Tigers’ two road wins in Gillette last weekend vaulted Rock Springs into the top five. They also received a pair of first-place votes. Jackson held onto the top spot. The Broncs received 11 of the 13 first-place votes. Kelly Walsh moved up one position to second in the poll. Sheridan and Laramie remained fourth and fifth.
The top four are the same in 4A girls. Thunder Basin is a near-unanimous choice for No. 1. The Bolts defeated second-ranked Rock Springs last weekend. They received 12 of the 13 first-place votes. The Tigers stayed in the No. 2 spot. Jackson earned a vote for first, but the Broncs held in third, while Kelly Walsh remained fourth. Natrona County is the new team in the poll. The Fillies moved into fifth after their 2-0 start last weekend.
The only change in 3A girls is a tie for fifth this week. Cody is one vote away from being a unanimous pick at the top of the rankings. Lander, Worland, and Buffalo are second, third, and fourth. Mountain View is now tied with Riverton for the No. 5 spot.
