Cheyenne Cross Country Post Race Remarks
It was the opening weekend for cross country and more than a few Wyoming schools competed with more than a few Colorado schools at the Wyoming Invite in Cheyenne on Friday. Both the boys' and girls' fields were huge and sophomore Maggie Madsen of Cheyenne East outdueled Ally Wheeler from Natrona for the win. She had an outstanding freshman year for the T-Birds with a 4th place finish at the 4A State Cross Country meet and a pair of 2nd place finishes at the 4A State Track Meet in the 1600-meter and 3200-meter runs.
Worland's Trajn Swalstad would like to end his prep career with a bang and he's off to a great start. He led the Cheyenne race nearly start to finish on Friday and was 2nd at the 3A State Cross Country Meet last season. Swalstad won both the 3A 1600 and 3200 meter events at the State Track Meet so he has what it takes to compete at an elite level.
We talked with both of these athletes after their wins on Thursday and that's the way to start the season!
