PhotoFest! Chey. East Qualifies for 4A Football Title Game

In a classic playoff football game, Cheyenne East held on to beat Campbell County in Gillette 35-34 in the 4A semi-final round. It was a game where it was great to win and terrible to lose with both teams giving it 1000% effort. East has now qualified for the 4A Championship game for the 3rd year in a row.

Needless to say, it was an eventful football game with Cheyenne East taking a 7-0 lead thanks to a 1-yard run for a touchdown from Keyshawn Brown. Campbell County answered with a 9-yard run for a score from quarterback Mason Drube but the extra point was missed so the Camels trailed 7-6

East had a tremendous 2nd quarter offensively with Brown recording his 2nd touchdown of the game from 2 yards out to make it 14-6. Nolan Horton followed that up with a 7-yard touchdown run to increase the T-Bird lead to 21-6. Campbell County responded again as Drube found Adam Gibson for 72 yards and a TD and the 2-point try was good to cut the gap to 21-14. East scored one more time in the 2nd quarter as Kaenen Zowada tossed an 18-yard TD pass to Aydan Riccardo with less than a minute to play in the half so the Birds led 28-14 at the intermission.

Campbell County turned the game around in the 3rd quarter as Drube threw a 61-yard touchdown pass to Gibson and then a 43-yarder to Ethan Masteller to even the game at 14. Drube threw for 310 yards in the game. In the 4th quarter, Keyshawn Brown unleashed a 26-yard run to the end zone to give East the lead again at 35-28, Brown finished the game with 189 yards on the ground.

With 19 seconds to play, the Camels scored again as Drube ran it in from the 2 so it was 35-34. Campbell County elected to go for two and the win but Drube's pass to Gibson in the end zone was incomplete giving East a nail-biting 35-34 victory.

The Thunderbirds at 9-2 will meet Sheridan for the 3rd year in a row in the 4A Championship at 4 pm on Saturday at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie. Campbell County finishes the year at 9-2, their highest win total since 2016.
