PhotoFest! Cokeville Gets By Newcastle in 2A Football Playoffs
In a competitive football game, Cokeville made the long trip over to Newcastle and came away with a 28-20 win in the quarterfinal round of the 2A Playoffs. The Panthers have qualified for the playoffs in Wyoming High School Football every year since 1993 and have missed the playoffs just once since 1983.
Newcastle opened the scoring in this game with a 63 gallop to the end zone by Conner Stolhammer to give the Dogies a 6-0 lead. Cokeville stormed back in the opening quarter as Kayson Walker ran in it from 3 yards and the the 2-point try was good so the Panthers edged in front 8-6. That was followed by a 38-yard run for a touchdown from Kashton Walker, which gave Cokeville a 14-6 advantage
Colin McConkey capped a Newcastle drive with a 3-yard TD run and with the successful 2-point try, the game was even at 14 all. In this back-and-forth game, Cokeville regained the lead with another 3-yard run for a touchdown from Kayson Walker. The Panthers went for 2 and made it to lead 22-14
Newcastle responded as McConkey recorded his 2nd touchdown of the night so the Dogies trailed by just 2 at 22-20. Cokeville put the finishing touches on this win as Kayson Walker scored for the 3rd time on a 2-yard plunge to the end zone to make it 28-20 and that's the way it finished.
Cokeville will be on the road in the 2A semi-finals at Mountain View on Friday afternoon. Newcastle ends the season with a record of 6-3; their first winning season since 2016.
