If you watch Wyoming High School track and field, you will see a lot of Desirae Iacovetto. She has excelled on the outdoor circuit and has been showing significant progress on the indoor track circuit. Iacovetto competes for Douglas on the indoor circuit and Wheatland in the outdoor season.

Over the weekend at the Basin Nation indoor meet at the Campbell County Rec Center, she took 3rd in the high jump at 5-2, 9th in the 200-meter dash, and placed 10th in the prelims of the 55-meter dash. That's not too bad considering there were 181 runners in the 55-meter field. Iacovetto won the high jump at the Laramie indoor meet going 5-3 and placed 2nd at the season-opening indoor event in Gillette.

She had a more than solid 2023 Indoor State Meet, taking 3rd in the 55 dash at 7.49 and 5th in both the 200 and the high jump. In her freshman season on the indoor circuit, she took 4th at State in the 55. She burst on the scene at the 2023 State Outdoor Meet by winning the 3A state championship in the 100-meter dash in 12.43. Iacovetto backed that up with a 2nd place finish in the 3A 200 with a clocking of 26.04. If that wasn't enough, the young lady was 7th in the high jump and her 4x100 relay team took 5th. She was sharp in the 2022 Outdoor Championships taking 2nd in the 3A 100 in 12.78 and 3rd in the 200 in 26.83.

Iacovetto has a great attitude towards competing and improving in track and field and we caught up with her at the Gillette Meet back on Friday.
