There are a couple of changes inside the top five of the final WyoPreps.com Coaches and Media Softball Poll in this inaugural 2021 season.

The last rankings released by WyoPreps a day before the first-ever high school softball state tournament has two teams’ trade spots and another that comes back into the top five.

The Kelly Walsh Trojans end the first season of prep softball in the Cowboy State at No. 1 Kelly Walsh received seven of the 10 first-place votes. The Trojans are in the top spot for the fourth consecutive week.

Thunder Basin is right on their heels. The Bolts earned the other three top ballots and are just six points back in the poll.

Those two teams won their respective conferences, West and East, during the regular season and have No. 1 seeds at this week’s state tournament.

Cheyenne East moves into the No. 3 spot. The Thunderbirds enter state off a split of their action last week, which included a 19-run loss to cross-town rival Cheyenne Central. Thanks to a pair of tiebreakers, Cheyenne East did earn a No. 2 seed at the state tournament.

Campbell County drops to fourth in the final rankings. The Camels had held the third position for all five of the previous polls conducted by WyoPreps this season.

The Central Indians climb back into the top five at No. 5 following their big win over East. Central returns to the rankings for the first time in three weeks. The Indians’ move means that Natrona County drops out of the top five.

The NC Fillies and Cody both received votes. All of these teams are part of the state tournament field in Gillette. The inaugural state tournament runs May 20-22, 2021.
