Wyoming High School Head Football Coaching Changes for 2026

Wyoming High School football practice is underway. Class 4A teams started on Monday, August 10. For the rest of the state, practice opens on Monday, August 17. That means 3A, 2A, 1A 9-Man, and 1A 6-Man divisions wait one more week. This marks the 18th consecutive season of this format for teams on the gridiron in the Cowboy State.

WYOPREPS WELCOMES THE 12 NEW HEAD FOOTBALL COACHES IN WYOMING

The start of the new season also brings new faces to the sidelines. Twelve new head coaches will join the ranks as the leaders of their respective programs. Coaching changes are normal in the off-season, and the reasons why can vary. Class 1A 9-Man has the most new head coaches with four. Class 2A has three. Class 4A and Class 3A have two new head coaches. Class 1A 6-Man is the only division with just one new head coach.

Here are the 12 new head coaches at schools around the state. For comparison, there were 9 new head coaches last year.

1A 6-Man:

Midwest Oilers – Josh Lindsay, replaces Joe Campbell.

1A 9-Man:

Lingle-Ft. Laramie Doggers – Jeremy Jackson, replaces Brandon Gifford.

Lusk Tigers – Chris Smith, replaces Chris Skeen.

Sundance Bulldogs – Brad Kruger; takes over as head coach after the split from Upton.

Wind River Cougars – Troy Anderson, replaces Rod Frederick.

2A:

Kemmerer Rangers – Sidney Chaulk, replaces Bart Jernigan.

Mountain View Buffalos – Dustin Rees, replaces Brent Walk.

Pinedale Wranglers – Brandon Overdorff, replaces Jesse Lake.

3A:

Green River Wolves – Brennan Walk, replaces Blaine Christensen.

Lander Tigers – John Rounds, replaces Jim Burton.

4A:

Campbell County Camels – Cole White, replaces Orah Garst.

Thunder Basin Bolts – Zach Meyer, replaces Trent Pikula.

The 2026 high school football season starts the weekend of August 28 and 29. Class 4A features a full five-game schedule. Teams in the other four classes do not have to play an official game in Week 0, but that’s decided by each school individually.
