The Gillette Camels finished the year with 16 wins and 9 losses but did end up finishing 3rd at the state tournament. Gillette had a nice run in the 4A East Regional tournament to grab a #1 seed at state and won their quarterfinal round game in Casper over Rock Springs 54-37. The Camels outscored the Tigers 18-2 in the 3rd quarter and were led in scoring by Rylee Hladky who had 22. McKenzee Nuzum had 10. Gillette shot a whopping 75% from the floor in the 2nd half. In the 4A semi-finals, Gillette lost a narrow 62-58 decision to Cheyenne East. The Camels were 5-26 from the 3 point line and got 25 points from Hladky and 10 from Livia Castellanos. This team did rally to take 3rd place in the tournament thanks to 64-56 win over Star Valley. Hladky led the way once again with 14, Emma Jarvis had 12 and Nuzum chipped in 10. Hladky was terrific this season as she averaged 22 points a game and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in the state. She along with McKenzee Nuzum were named all-state and both of those ladies will be seniors. More often than not, Gillette reloads in girls basketball and doesn't rebuild.
