Gillette’s Cooper Stevens Will Play Football at South Dakota School of Mines
Campbell County senior Cooper Stevens signed his National Letter of Intent on Tuesday for football at the South Dakota School of Mines.
Stevens was a two-year starter and letterman on the gridiron for the Camels.
He was chosen second-team all-state and first-team all-conference on both the offensive and defensive line for the Camels in the 2022 season. He was a second-team all-conference pick on the offensive line in 2021.
During his senior season last fall, Stevens made 18 tackles, which included three tackles for loss, one sack. He also had one interception.
On offense, Cooper anchored an offensive line that helped the Camels average nearly 296 total yards per game and 23.3 points per game. He helped Campbell County to a 4-6 record and a berth in the Class 4A playoffs.
Stevens was also a thrower during the indoor and outdoor track seasons at CCHS. He won the shot put at the 2023 indoor track state championship on March 4, 2023. Stevens' best toss was 55-8, and he won by over three feet.
The senior has also pre-qualified in the shot put for the outdoor state track championships next month in Casper. Cooper has a season-best toss of 51-02 in the shot put. That is the second-best throw in the 2023 outdoor track and field season. He has either won or finished second in the shot in four meets during this spring season.
Cooper is a four-year letterman in indoor track and a three-year letterman in outdoor track at CCHS.
South Dakota School of Mines is in Rapid City, SD. The Hardrockers compete at the NCAA Division II level and are in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
