Highlights of the Saturday, March 16th Girls Soccer game, between Buffalo vs. Jackson, played in Casper.

After a scoreless first half, the Lady Broncs got their offense together in order to avenge a semi-final loss vs. the Lady Bison last year.

She maybe bundled up, but it actually was a good day to take a nap outdoors…even better…it was a good day to get a soccer game in.

Buffalo vs. Jackson…this game being played in Casper…first half…Jackson wearing the white…trying something out of the corner, but you’re going to have to get up pretty early in the morning to pull that on Jenna Anderson. She saw that ball coming and it’s not going into her net.

On the other end…the Buffalo offense was setting up their opportunities. Caley Stafford will aim for the far side of the net, and went a little too far with it. Faith Hamlin was not taking any chances and decided to reel that ball in, just in case the opposition got any ideas about a follow-up try.

Later…the Lady Bison tried a little mis-direction. It looked like Teneil Schumacher was going to fire one way…and instead went the other direction towards the net. Hamlin reacted just in time to bat the ball away, and would save a goal. That was a tough situation, but there was a tougher one that you will see in a little bit.

Back to the other end…another corner kick try for the Lady Broncs…this time they go long…and we lost the ball for a moment…then Izzy Trott found it, and will try to strike from short range…however Anderson never lost sight of where the ball was…and we have nothing doing on the scoreboard, going into halftime.

Second half…both teams now going in the opposite direction…Jackson found their attack plan and executed it…with one small catch…Sally Watters centers the ball for Julie Cervantez…great idea, but kicking the ball right at the goalie is usually not going to get the job done. Great reaction on Anderson’s part, by the way.

They’d try it again on the other side of the field…Charlotte Pierce with another good set-up, but Claire French was about 1 step behind and the connection can not be made. The Lady Broncs knew if they stayed after it…something would go in, sooner or later.

Eventually it did…after Pierce decided to take matters into her own hands…Buffalo was trying to clear out the ball, but the junior would steal it and fire a quick shot, that just got by Anderson. It was some much needed relief after a number of near misses. Jackson is on the board, up 1-nil.

Last year’s 3A state runner-ups would try to strike back…and this was their best shot. The ball gets away from Hamlin and she goes down…the net is open and we got a wild scramble…the Lady Bison would try to set something up, but their shot got deflected out of bounds…Hamlin knows she dodged a bullet on that play, and came away unscathed.

Buffalo kept trying…they just needed a new approach. Rileigh Olson will try to slip this shot in between Hamlin and the cross-bar, but she put a little too much on that one, and that’s probably a shot that she wanted to have that one back.

Meanwhile the opposition was maintaining their lead, but wanted some insurance. Anderson mis-handles the shot, and French was in the right place at the right time to knock in the rebound. The Lady Broncs get a little measure of pay-back from last year’s semi-finals, and salvage a weekend split…beating their 3A foes…2-nil.
