The defending 2A state champion Lyman Eagles won their 17th straight game with a 42-20 victory over Big Horn in the first round of the 2021 football playoffs last Friday.

Lyman (10-0) jumped out to a 21-0 lead in the first quarter and never trailed. The Eagles were led by junior QB Ashton Housekeeper. He accounted for 286 yards of total offense and was responsible for four TDs. He ran for three scores and threw for another.

McKoy Smith had a touchdown catch, returned a punt for a TD, ran for a touchdown, and had an interception for Lyman.

Housekeeper scored on an 18-yard run on their first possession. He found Smith for a TD pass on their second possession. That was set up by Carter Bradshaw’s interception. Smith returned a punt 46 yards for a score, and it was 21-0 Eagles in the first quarter.

Early in the second quarter, Big Horn scored on a 7-yard Cooper Garber TD pass to Dawson Richards, but Lyman answered right back. Housekeeper scored from six yards out for a 28-7 lead. The third TD run of the first half by Housekeeper made it 35-7, Eagles.

Garber scored on a 10-yard TD run, which made it 35-14, Lyman, at halftime.

Smith’s 31-yard TD run in the third quarter capped the scoring for the Eagles, as they led 42-14.

Big Horn added a TD pass in the fourth for the final margin.

Lyman advances to the semifinals versus Wheatland, while Big Horn’s season came to an end.
