Riverton Surges Past Evanston in 3A Football
Riverton is making some headway in 3A football with a playoff appearance last season after a 2-year absence. The Wolverines needed everything they could muster on Friday night to hold Evanston 17-13 for the 2nd win of the season and Evanston made the 3A semi-finals a year ago so they are 2-1.
It was an exciting first quarter of play as Evanston drew first blood on an 80-yard run to the house from Brayden Wallace giving the Red Devils the early lead at 7-0. Riverton responded with a 29-yard gallop to the end zone from Hunter Saltsgaver to even the game at 7. Saltsgaver added a 37-yard field goal to give the Wolverines a 10-7 lead after the opening quarter.
Evanston regained the lead in the 2nd quarter as Braunson Simms tossed a 12-yard touchdown pass to Brooke Searle so at this point it was 13-10. Riverton bounced right back in the 3rd quarter on a 4-yard run for a score from Blake Gantenbein and Riverton would hold on from there after a scoreless 4th quarter.
Riverton at 2-1 will host Green River this week while Evanston will be on the road in Lander. We have a great bunch of photos from Friday's game, courtesy of Riverton High School. They will be in our gallery below. Enjoy!
