Shelby Ekwall has been a solid all-around athlete for Southeast in her prep career and will continue her journey in track and field at the University of Wyoming in Laramie. Ekwall is the three-time state champion in the shot put in 1A and won the event this year with a toss of 40 feet 5 inches. In her junior year, she set the 1A record in the shot going 41-8.75. Ekwall threw 36-2.5 in her sophomore season to take the top of the podium.

Ekwall was an All-State volleyball player for the Cyclones in 2022 as the team took 2nd at the 1A State Tournament. She finished with 191 kills and 137 digs. In her junior year, she was an All-Conference performer with 93 kills and 40 digs. Southeast placed 3rd at the State Tournament that season.

Ekwall was also a force on the basketball court as she averaged 6 points and 6 rebounds a game in her senior campaign as the Cyclones were the 1A state runner-up in 2023. In team took the 1A state championship the previous season as she averaged 5 points and 4 rebounds per game.
