Friday's Thunder Basin-Sheridan game was the premiere 4A football match on the calendar for Friday and Sheridan once again proved that they are state championship contenders. The Broncs put together a strong first half to knock off a talented Thunder Basin team 34-27. Sheridan scored twice in the opening quarter thanks to a 1-yard plunge from Colson Coon and a 52-yard gallop from Mathew Ketner to lead 14-0.

Thunder Basin found some traction with a first-quarter field goal, a 2nd quarter safety, and a 24-yard run for a touchdown from Nic Black so just like that the Bolts were back in the game at 24-12. Sheridan showed a lot of poise as they responded with 2 more touchdowns as Coon scored again from the doorstep and Dane Steel caught a long touchdown pass from Cael Gilbertson to bump the lead to 28-12 at the halftime intermission.

Coon tacked on his 3rd rushing touchdown of the day to make it 34-12  but Thunder Basin also showed some poise with a 14-yard TD reception from Colton Vetter. Then Bolts quarterback Alonso found Kayden LaFramboise for 7 yards and a score to cut the lead to 34-27. Thunder Basin had the ball with a minute left in the game but absorbed a sack in the red zone on the last play of the contest.

Sheridan will host Cheyenne East on Friday in a battle of the two top-ranked teams in 4A, both at 5-0. Thunder Basin at 2-3 has a big game too as they'll take on crosstown rival Campbell County on Friday.
