Sheridan multi-sports senior Izak Aksamit will further his track and field career at the next level after recently signing with Black Hills State University.

Aksamit was an all-state performer in indoor track during the 2020 season. He ran a leg on the winning 4x400 meter relay that finished with a time of 3:32.27. At the 2021 indoor track state championships, Aksamit ran a leg on the third-place 4x200 meter relay team for the Broncs.

Aksamit is also a two-time participant at the outdoor track and field state championships. He lost a chance to compete during his junior season last spring due to the virus. In 2019, as a sophomore, Aksamit ran on the runner-up 4x400 and 1600 sprint medley relays. He also ran in the open 400-meters and competed in the long jump. Aksamit ran on a state-qualifying relay team his freshman year.

The Sheridan High School senior is also an all-state and two-time all-conference football player for the Broncs. He was part of Sheridan’s Class 4A state championship team in 2019. That season, Aksamit was a first-team all-conference at-large offense selection and second-team all-conference at running back.

In his senior season of 2020, Izak was second-team all-state and first-team all-conference as a running back. He was second-team all-conference at linebacker for the Broncs.

Aksamit was also one of the 96 nominees for this year's Wyoming Chapter of the National Football Foundation's Scholar-Athlete Award.

Black Hills State University competes at the NCAA Division II level. The Yellow Jackets are part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Seth Mischke is the head track coach. There are currently 12 former prep athletes from Wyoming on the Black Hills State men’s track and field roster. That includes two from Sheridan High School, freshman Timothy Brown, and senior Brian Kjerstad.
