Southeast Beats Lingle-Fort Laramie in a Wild Game 36-35
In what turned out to be a super compelling game in 1A 9-man football, Southeast rallied in the last minute to turn back Lingle-Fort Laramie 36-35 in Yoder on Friday night. Southeast opened the scoring in the first quarter with Ayden Desmond throwing a 6-yard touchdown pass to Austin Short to give the Cyclones a 6-0 lead.
Lingle came right back as quarterback Brian McCoid tossed a 25-yard TD pass to Nolan Spears so the Doggers took the lead at 7-6. Southeast dug deep into the playbook for the 2nd touchdown of the night as Short threw to Desmond the quarterback on a play that covered 19 yards so the Cyclones held on to a 13-7 lead at the halftime intermission.
In the 3rd quarter, Lingle's Slade Hopkins zipped 65 yards down the field for a Dogger touchdown, and just like that, it was 14-13. This game went back and forth continuously with Southeast responding as Desmond found Cole Sauer for a score from 31 yards out so the Cyclones were back in front 20-14. Kaiden Riggs answered with a 1-yard TD plunge giving LFL the lead again at 28-20.
The last 2+ minutes were certainly memorable as Wyatt Campbell of Southeast scored on a 3-yard run and the Cyclones converted the 2-point try to even the game at 28. Lingle came right back as Nolan Spears found the end zone from 9 yards out with less than a minute to go. The Doggers at this point led 35-28.
Southeast showed some mettle in the last minute as Kann Tippetts hauled in a 69-yard pass for a touchdown so the Dogger lead was down to 35-34. The Cyclones elected to go for 2 which was a risky call and the Cyclones won that bet as Desmond found Short in the end zone to make it 36-35. That's the way it finished.
Southeast has won 5 in a row and will be at Saratoga this week. Lingle saw their 5 game-winning streak come to an end and the Doggers have a huge game this week against 6-0 Pine Bluffs.
