Sheridan senior tight end and defensive end Beck Haswell was chosen as the Gatorade Wyoming Football Player of the Year on Friday. It is the sixth time in the last eight years that a Bronc has earned this honor. Haswell is the 12th Gatorade Player of the Year winner from Sheridan High School. In its 41st year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company announced the winner on Friday.

WYOMING'S 2025 GATORADE FOOTBALL AWARD WINNER

The 6-3, 220-pound senior was a unanimous two-way all-state selection for the 4A state champion Broncs, helping them to a 12-0 record in the 2025 season. It was Sheridan’s fifth straight title and extended the state’s longest winning streak to 55 games. Haswell also played at quarterback, as the Broncs’ staff used him as a jack-of-all-trades. He finished with 583 yards of total offense between passing, rushing, and receiving. Beck scored eight touchdowns during the season. On defense, Haswell made 41 tackles, including six sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He was the state’s No. 1 recruit as rated by 247 Sports. Haswell was also a unanimous pick for the 4A Lineman of the Year.

In a release from The Gatorade Company, Sheridan assistant coach Wendell Smith Riverton praised Haswell’s versatility and impact in each game.

“Beck brings relentless hustle to the ball, and he’s one of the most talented players I’ve coached in 29 years. Opponents consistently ran away from his side of the field and repeatedly tried to double-team him in their pass-protection schemes. He’s an incredible blocker and dynamic receiver, and his versatility on offense made him a threat to score every time he touched the ball. As our Wildcat QB, he struck fear into the hearts of opposing defenses and, throughout his career, he played an important role on our special teams’ units.”

Haswell gets it done off the Field

In the classroom, Haswell maintains a weighted GPA of 3.98. He signed with the University of Wyoming to play football for the Cowboys earlier this week. Haswell has volunteered locally on behalf of Bronc youth football and soccer programs, the annual Gold Buckle Club WYO Rodeo, and the Sheridan Hoop Jam Tournament. He has also donated his time as an educational peer helper and to the Out of the Darkness Suicide Walk, in addition to serving as a member of the school photo club.

This award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character, as demonstrated both on and off the field. It distinguishes Haswell as Wyoming’s best high school football player. He is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Football Player of the Year award, which will be announced later this month.

As part of Gatorade’s commitment to breaking down barriers in sport, every Player of the Year also receives a grant to donate to a social impact partner. To date, Gatorade Player of the Year winners’ grants have totaled more than $6.4 million across more than 2,200 organizations.

Haswell joins recent Gatorade Wyoming Football Players of the Year Cooper Lawson (2024-25) from Star Valley, Dane Steel (2023-24) of Sheridan, and Colson Coon (2021-22 and 2022-23) from Sheridan, among the state’s list of former award winners.
