Thorvaldson Takes Third, Visser 21st at National Cross Country Meets
Sydney Thorvaldson took third place by a slim margin at the Nike Cross Nationals Finals on Saturday in Portland, OR.
The Rawlins junior ran the 5km course in 17:19.4. That was exactly one second behind the winner, Katelyn Tuohy from New York. Taylor Ewert of Beaver Creek came in second place, 0.3 seconds ahead of Thorvaldson.
This marked the first loss for Thorvaldson during the 2019 cross country season. She was among the top three throughout Saturday’s Girls’ Championship Division race.
Meanwhile in California, at the Foot Locker Cross Country West Regional, Star Valley’s Peter Visser came in 21st place in the Boys’ Championship Division race. Visser’s time was 15:17.5.
The winning time was 14:53.2. The top 10 advanced to the Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships on Dec. 14, 2019, in San Diego, CA. Visser was only 22 seconds out of the top 10.
Jesse Loveland of Star Valley competed in the Senior Division and finished 31st. He helped the Afton team place 21st out of 26 teams in that division.
