State Champs and a Basketball Star Headline WyoPreps Athletes of the Week [VIDEOS]
Three state champion wrestlers and a standout basketball player were picked as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week on March 4, 2026. Thermopolis junior Lilly Quintanilla and Buffalo senior Karly Davis shared the girls’ honor. Two senior state champion boys’ wrestlers, Tel Parry of Star Valley and Wyoming Indian’s Ben Niedo, got the boys’ awards based on their performances. Quintanilla joined the three-time state champion wrestling club. Davis had two big games at the end of the regular season for the Bison. Parry joined the elite four-time champions club, and Niedo recorded a school first. WyoPreps analyzed performances from the competition week of February 23 through February 28, 2026, and chose these four student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.

Girls’ Winners
Quintanilla won her third consecutive wrestling state championship on February 28 in Casper. The junior dominated the 120-pound bracket on the way to the title. She pinned all four of her opponents in the first period of the match. Quintanilla won by fall in 32 seconds, 40 seconds, 1:18, and 1:06 in the championship match. She finished the season at 41-1.
WyoPreps caught up with Lilly to discuss her great weekend. She said she can’t wait for four, felt she made a statement, said she worked hard for this, described the support she gets from the Thermopolis coaches and community, said her one loss on the season was motivating, and discussed more.
Davis averaged 35.5 points per game and helped Buffalo to a 2-0 finish in the 3A East Conference. That pushed the Bison up to second in the league standings with an 8-2 record. The senior added 8.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and five steals per contest. Davis finished with a double-double in Buffalo’s 62-38 victory over Glenrock. She had 26 points and 11 rebounds. Karly followed that with a school-record 45-point performance on Senior Day against Newcastle. Buffalo won that game 75-33 to clinch the No. 2 seed at the regional tournament.
WyoPreps visited with Davis about her two games. She felt they started too slow against the Herders, and that she had to pick it up. Davis followed that with her school-record game versus the Dogies and said it felt like any other game until her teammates started finding her open in the second half. She was not aware of the record during the game, added that it was super special, described the improvement Buffalo has made throughout the season, and how her role changed compared to the past.

Boys’ Winners
Parry made school history and joined an elite club. He won his fourth wrestling state championship on February 28 in Casper. Parry became the 34th member of the rare four-time champions club. Tel pinned his first opponent. In the quarterfinals, he won by a 13-1 major decision. Parry earned a 19-1 tech fall in the semifinals, which gave him a shot at a fourth title. Tel punctuated that with a 10-2 major decision and the 144-pound title. He finished the season at 43-1 and became the first four-time champ in the deep and lengthy wrestling history of Star Valley High School.
WyoPreps chatted with Tel about his fourth title. He discussed what it meant to be in such an elite club, the weight that came off his shoulders, how it felt completing that journey, how he felt he wrestled at the state championships, described the work he put in, how his patience was tested, and much more.
Niedo made school history at the 2A wrestling state championships on February 28. He became the first wrestler to win a state title for the Wyoming Indian Chiefs. Niedo pinned his first opponent in 47 seconds. He followed that with a pin in the quarterfinals in 25 seconds. Facing his teammate in the semifinals, Roland Burton, Ben did just enough for a victory by decision, 6-2. Niedo capped his championship with a pin, 50 seconds into the match. In the process of creating school history, Niedo got his 100th career win. He finished the season with a 24-5 record.
WyoPreps spoke with Niedo to get his reaction. He described the feeling following the title, what it meant to be the first wrestler in his school to ever win a championship, his path to winning the crown, which included a tough match against a teammate, how he was unsure he would even be able to wrestle this year, and more.
Congratulations to Lilly, Karly, Tel, and Ben on being selected as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
