WyoPreps Recaps the Cheyenne Sixers 2026 Legion Baseball Title

For the sixth time in the last seven seasons, the Cheyenne Sixers are the champions at the top level of Wyoming American Legion Baseball. Cheyenne defeated the Sheridan Jets 8-1 in the championship game at the Division 1 State Tournament in Gillette on Monday afternoon. Sheridan took a brief lead, but the Sixers answered right back and pulled away to win the title.

THE CHEYENNE SIXERS CLAIM ANOTHER LEGION BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Kayden Tafoya had two hits and scored two runs for Cheyenne. Braden Pearson added a 2-run triple, walked twice, and scored two runs. Six Cheyenne batters recorded a hit, and five drove in at least one run. Zach Hall was the winning pitcher. He allowed only one run on five hits. He walked three and struck out four on 88 pitches.

Drake Martinson and Zach Kintzi had two hits apiece for Sheridan. Ty Hammerstrom had their only RBI.

Sheridan scored first in the top of the second inning on Hammerstrom's two-out RBI single to left field. Cheyenne responded with three runs and took the lead for good. Tafoya tripled to center field, and Demetri Cotton brought him home on a ground out. Brodin Robbins had the go-ahead RBI single for the Sixers after a hit batter and a walk. A sacrifice fly by Quentin King made it 3-1.

A squeeze bunt by Cotton pushed the lead to 4-1 in the third inning. An error on a dropped fly ball led to another run for a 5-1 advantage. Mason Maggard had an RBI single in the fourth inning. Two batters later, Pearson drove in a pair with his triple to right field. The score was 8-1. Hall retired 9 of the last 10 batters he faced. A ground out to first ended the game, and the celebration was on for the Cheyenne Sixers.

Cheyenne Post 6 moves on to the Regional Tournament

The Sixers advance to the Region 7 Northwest Regional Tournament in Medford, Oregon. Their first game will be on Wednesday, August 5 versus an opponent from Hawaii. Cheyenne will play in the second game of the daytime doubleheader, which starts at 9:30 a.m. What that means is their exact game time is unknown. It will be 30 minutes after the 9:30 a.m. game finishes.
