Mills and Bentley Named First WyoPreps Winter Athletes of the Week [VIDEO]
A girls’ basketball player and a boys’ swimmer were chosen as the first winter season WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. Our selections were Sundance senior Jaylin Mills and Lyman senior Evan Bentley. Mills had a big weekend last week on the court and helped her team knock off the No. 1-ranked team with a huge game. Bentley opened his final season in the pool with some top times and qualified for the state championships. WyoPreps reviewed performances from the competition week of December 8 through December 13, 2025, and picked these two student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.
WYOPREPS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK WINNERS 12-18-25
Girls’ Winner
Sundance senior basketball player Jaylin Mills averaged 26.8 points per game and helped the Bulldogs go 3-1 at the Coal Miner’s Classic in Wright. She shot 41 percent from the field, 52 percent from beyond the arc, and 83 percent at the free-throw line. Mills added 6.3 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game. Jaylin led Sundance in scoring all four games, rebounding twice, assists twice, and steals three times. What stood out was her 42-point effort against No. 1 Wyoming Indian. Mills made seven 3’s against the Chiefs, went 11-13 at the charity stripe, and snagged eight rebounds.
WyoPreps visited with Mills about her performance last weekend. She reflected on how she played, what went well, what she needs to improve, how the veteran Bulldogs played, and more.

Boys’ Winner
Lyman senior swimmer Evan Bentley enjoyed a nice start to his final prep season. Bentley won two individual events and was on a first-place relay in the Eagles’ dual victory over Kemmerer. He won the 200 IM and 100 backstroke races versus the Rangers. His time of 58.51 seconds in the backstroke is the top time in 3A boys’ swimming so far, and No. 3 in the state, overall. Bentley added a second-place effort at the Dale Ross Pentathlon in Rawlins. He won the 100-butterfly race at 56.41 seconds, which is the fastest time in 3A and second-best overall in the state. He helped Lyman finish second as a team in the pentathlon. Evan has qualified for the state swim meet in five events so far. Those are the butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, and both the 50- and 100-meter freestyle events.
WyoPreps spoke with Bentley to get his thoughts on his first weekend of the season. As you might think, he was pleased. Evan discussed how he swam despite being worn down from training, how he pushed through, especially during the pentathlon, what he loves about swimming, and more.
Congratulations to Jaylin and Evan on being chosen as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
