The day began with the volleyball match at Casper College. The North won 4-sets-to-1. The scores of the match were 25-19, 26-24, 25-15, 22-25, and 15-7. After the South started the day by scoring the first three points, the North took the lead with a 7-1 run and never trailed for the rest of the first set. It was back-and-forth in set two. The North took a five-point lead, but the South rallied to tie the match at 24-24. A kill by Jaylin Mills from Sundance and a hitting error led to the North pulling out the set, 26-24. In set three, the North went on an 8-0 run after trailing 6-4. They cruised from there, 25-15. That gave the North the victory, but they played the full five sets. The South jumped out to a 7-2 lead in set four. They led 23-14 before an 8-0 surge by the North. The South held on for their only set victory, 25-22. Finally, in set five, the North used an 8-2 run to seize control and pulled away for a 15-7 win to conclude the match. Makieha Humphreys of Kelly Walsh led the North with 13 kills. Former KW teammate Madyn Waring added 10 kills, and Sundance’s Jaylin Mills chipped in 9 kills, one ace, and 1.5 blocks.

The two sides split the basketball action
The South controlled the girls’ basketball game from start to finish. They rolled to an 83-49 win over the North. The South jumped out to a 20-8 lead by the end of the first quarter. They extended that to 38-14 by halftime. The North rallied a little in the third quarter, but the South kept their focus and pulled away with 29 points in the final frame. Cokeville’s Addison Barnes led all scorers with a game-high 26 points. She added 9 rebounds and 4 steals. Kaycee Kosmicki from Southeast had 12 points, and Josie Barrett of Burns added 10. Elizabeth Needham from Cheyenne Central led the way on the glass with 11 rebounds. The North got 12 points and 5 rebounds from Chaney Reish of Tongue River.

The boys’ basketball game turned out to be the best all-star match-up of the day. The North pulled out a 107-104 victory. Sheridan’s Nate Miner scored a game-high 37 points. He also contributed 7 rebounds. Carter Alvar from Kelly Walsh followed with 24 points, and Meeteetse’s Max Potas added 15 points and 5 rebounds. Cordell Spoonhunter from Wyoming Indian led the South team with 21 points. Dylan Shumway of Star Valley had 17 points and 5 boards, while Brady Cook from Lingle-Ft. Laramie added 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Miner got the North off to a fast start, but the South rallied and held a 31-27 advantage after the first quarter. The game remained close, but the North had the edge at the break, 56-54. Miner had 17 points at halftime, while Potas had 13. A surge at the end of the third period gave the North boys an 84-78 lead. The South came back and tied the game with a minute left. A three-pointer by Cody Bomengen gave the North the lead, and they made just enough free throws to hold on for the 3-point victory. The South had a shot to tie it at the buzzer, but Spoonhunter’s half-court heave fell short.
After the game, WyoPreps chatted with Miner and Alvar about the North win.
