From Slopes to Lanes: Four Seniors Claim WyoPreps Athlete of the Week [VIDEOS]
A skier, a thrower, a swimmer, and a distance runner shared the WyoPreps Athlete of the Week honors. Natrona County seniors Evie Crawford and Champ Ransom, plus Laramie senior Kate Lewis, and Rock Springs senior Koen Asper were the winners based on last week’s performances. Crawford excelled in the first downhill ski races of the season. Lewis won two events at an indoor track meet in Utah. Asper was dominant in the pool, and Ransom had a great day on the track last Saturday. WyoPreps reviewed performances from the competition week of January 19 through January 24, 2026, and selected these four student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.

Girls’ Winners
Crawford opened the 2026 Alpine skiing season with a runner-up finish in the slalom and a victory in the giant slalom at the Laramie Invitational. Sitting in fourth ahead of her final run, Evie laid down the fastest slalom in her second run at 31.38 seconds. That moved her from fourth to second. Crawford followed that with a victory in the GS the next day. She had a two-run combined time of 1:38.89 and won by close to a half-second. Crawford leads the all-state points entering the second competition of the season.
WyoPreps chatted with Evie about her performance on the slopes outside of Laramie last weekend. She felt good about how she skied, discussed her slalom runs, what she did in the second run to reach the podium, described her victory in the GS, her love for skiing, and more.
Lewis competed against some top competition at the Weber State High School Indoor Invitational last Friday in Ogden, UT. The senior won both her events. Lewis placed first in the shot put with a school record toss, 41-6.75. She won by over a foot. Kate added a win in the weight throw. Her best toss was 45-2.50, and Lewis won that event by nearly one foot.
WyoPreps caught up with the senior to reflect on last week’s big wins. She discussed competing separately from her teammates, took us through her two event victories, described her approach, her love for throwing, and more.

Boys’ Winners
Asper won four individual events in two swim meets last week. Last Thursday at home, Koen broke the school and pool records in his victory in the 50 Free. Asper’s time was 21.63 seconds. He followed that with a pool record in the 100 Free at 47.99 seconds for his second win of the day. Koen also helped Rock Springs win the 200 Free and 400 Free relays. Last Saturday at the Bruce Gresly Invitational in Lander, Asper won the 200 Free at 1:53.01 and the 100 Free at 49.37 seconds. He was the only swimmer under 51 seconds in the event.
WyoPreps spoke to Koen about his efforts in the pool last week. He looked back on the records he set at home, his reaction when he saw his times, described how he didn’t feel that good that day, pushed through to help his team, reviewed his wins in Lander, discussed his passion for swimming, and more.
Ransom won both his distance races against some top competition at the Campbell County Invite last Saturday in Gillette. In the process, he set two meet records. Champ won the 800 meters at 1:59.86. His margin of victory was almost five seconds in that race, and Ransom was the only runner under 2-minutes. He added a victory in the 1600 meters at 4:23.62. Champ now holds all three distance race records at that indoor track meet. He helped Natrona County to a fourth-place finish in the team standings.
WyoPreps visited Champ to look back on his race day in Gillette. He felt good about his two victories, believing he still had room to improve and go faster. He discussed his training, aiming to stay healthier than in past seasons and more.
Congratulations to Evie, Kate, Koen, and Champ on being selected as WyoPreps’ Athletes of the Week!
