Stars from softball and track and field have been chosen as the most recent WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. Campbell County senior Courtney Thayer, Lander senior Adelyn Anderson, and Cheyenne Central senior Tegan Krause were the winners. WyoPreps looked back on performances from the competition week of April 27 through May 2, 2026, and chose these three student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.

Thayer led top-ranked Campbell County to a 5-1 record last week with a .615 batting average. She had four doubles, a triple, two home runs, and one sacrifice fly. Courtney drove in 12 runs, scored 10 times, walked eight times, and did not strike out. Her on-base percentage was .727. Thayer had an OPS of 2.265. She was also perfect in the field with zero errors.

Her nomination said, “Courtney has been a beast all season long and is consistently putting up legit stats. She is our starting shortstop, always making plays look easy… She is also a great teammate and a very coachable kid.”

WyoPreps discussed last week’s effort with Courtney. She reflected on her good play by saying she found the pitches she wanted to swing at and tried to make the plays that came to her in the field. She described her approach at the plate and in the field, the chemistry of the team, how well they’ve played, her unique nickname, and more.

Anderson enjoyed an incredible week last week with four victories in her two throwing events. In her first competition at the KW Invite last Thursday, Adelyn won the discus with a toss of 159-07 and took first in the shot put with a throw of 48-5. Her margin of victory was 19 feet in the discus and just over 9 feet in the shot put. Last Friday in the Wyoming Track and Field Classic in Casper, Anderson put on a show and set two meet records. She unleashed the fourth-longest throw in the nation at the time in the discus and won with a mark of 168-11. Anderson followed that with a toss of 50-08.5 in the shot put. She won the discus by 20 feet and the shot put by over 8 feet.

WyoPreps caught up with Anderson to chat about her huge victories. She discussed how she performed, how the KW Invite helped to warm her up, felt she had nothing to lose in the ‘Classic’, described her approach in the ring, how she’s had to teach herself a lot, and more.
