Two standout basketball players who dominated the competition last week were selected as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. Cody junior Grace Hays and Wright senior Mitchell Strohschein were the winners based on last week’s performances. Hays helped the Fillies remain the only unbeaten teams with two big games, and Strohschein continued his impressive senior campaign with two more big-time efforts in two conference victories for the Panthers. WyoPreps analyzed performances from the competition week of February 9 through February 14, 2026, and picked these two student-athletes. Previous weeks are not part of the decision.

Hays had a night to remember last Friday, as she scored a school-record 41 points in Cody’s 74-38 victory over Buffalo. She accomplished the feat while playing less than 22 minutes of the game due to some foul trouble. Hays shot 65 percent (15-23) from the field with five 3-pointers and went 6-7 at the free-throw line. Grace added four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. She previously broke the school record for points in a game earlier this season, but surpassed that against the Bison. Hays followed that big night with 22 points in a 59-35 victory at conference foe, Lovell, on Saturday. Grace shot 47 percent (7-15) in that game. She added four rebounds, three assists, and five steals. Cody improved to 17-0 this season. On a side note, Hays also passed 1,000 career points earlier this year.

WyoPreps caught up with Grace to discuss her great weekend. She admitted it ‘felt pretty great’ and appreciated the help of her teammates. Hays said Cody’s aggressive style of play lends itself to how she likes to play, added how defense is where she hangs her hat, how the new defense the Fillies are playing benefited her last week, and more.

Strohschein continued to put up monster numbers in two conference victories last week for No. 5 Wright. The senior had 22 points and 14 rebounds in a 72-49 win at Tongue River. Mitchell shot 61 percent from the field and added six assists, one steal, and four blocked shots. Last Saturday, Strohschein scored 34 points and grabbed 20 rebounds in a 71-49 victory versus Sundance. He shot 54 percent from the floor, dished out seven assists, had two steals, and three blocked shots. Mitchell helped the Panthers improve to 15-6 on the season and 2-1 in league games. The senior leads the state in double-doubles with 16 this season. Strohschein also passed 1,000 career points earlier this season.

WyoPreps chatted with Mitchell about his efforts last week. He said he enjoys the game, credited his teammates for his success, especially when they keep feeding him the ball. He likes to play a physical brand of basketball and said his dad instructed him on that from a young age, reviewed his two games last week, and more.

Congratulations to Grace and Mitchell on being chosen as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week!
