Big Piney's Emma York Picks Oklahoma Baptist for Track and XC

Big Piney senior Emma York will continue to run in college after signing last month at Oklahoma Baptist University for cross-country and track and field. York will be attending on both academic and athletic scholarships. York is a three-time state champion in outdoor track. She is the two-time defending champion in Class 2A in the 3200 meters. She also won a state title on Big Piney’s 4x800 meter relay in 2022.

York won the 2A 3200 meters last May at 12:32.89 as a junior. She added a runner-up finish in the 1600 meters with a season-record time of 5:36.43. York placed sixth in the 800 meters and ran on the Punchers’ fifth-place sprint medley relay. It helped Big Piney finish second in the team standings, only six points back of the first-place team, Kemmerer.

As a sophomore in 2023, York won her first individual state championship in the 2A 3200 meters. She crossed the finish line at 12:17.68. York added a runner-up performance in the 1600 meters at 5:33.55. She also took sixth in the 800 meters. York was part of Big Piney’s 2A girls’ state title-winning team in 2023.

York qualified for the state track meet in her freshmen season of 2022. She was on the Punchers’ state championship 4x800 meter relay team. Their time was 11:00.09. York took fourth place in the 3200 meters and fifth place in the 1600 meters. She helped Big Piney take third in the team standings.

York has the second-best time in school history in the 3200 meters at 12:30.30 and the third-fastest time in the 1600 meters at 5:33.55. Both of those times were in the 2023 season.

Besides track, York swam for the Sublette County team and qualified for the 3A state swim meet in 2022 and 2023.

Oklahoma Baptist University is in Shawnee, OK. The Bison compete at the NCAA Division II level. They are members of the Great American Conference.
