The Cheyenne Hawks won their second-ever Class ‘A’ State Championship with a 5-4 victory over the Douglas Cats Saturday in Douglas.

Tyler Schlagel and Ben Bohlmann had the run-scoring hits, while Ty Lobmeyer went the distance on the mound to lead Cheyenne to the title.

Douglas got out to a 3-0 lead. Ransom Ollie produced an RBI-single followed by Jordan Bobrowski’s RBI-sacrifice fly in the first inning. Carson Selk added another RBI-sacrifice fly in the second inning.

The Hawks finally got on the board in the third inning. After a pair of singles sandwiched around an out, Tyler Schlagel homered on the first pitch he saw off the scoreboard in left-center. It tied the game at 3-3.

Cheyenne took the lead in the fourth inning. After a walk and a pair of pop outs, Guy Andren doubled to deep right field. Bohlmann followed with a single to center on a 2-1 pitch that scored Keagan Bartlett and Andren for a 5-3 lead.

Douglas got one back in the sixth on a solo home run off the bat of Jacob Russell. His long ball was also on the first pitch of the at-bat.

Lobmeyer worked around a walk and a single, and with runners at second and third base, he got Brad Brooks to fly out to second baseman Gavin Goff to end the ball game.

Andren, Bohlmann, and Kaden Anderson led the nine-hit attack for Cheyenne with two hits each.

Lobmeyer threw 107 pitches in his complete-game victory. He allowed four runs, one earned, on seven hits. Lobmeyer walked two and struck out five.

Douglas had seven total hits with Michael Bobrowski and Ransom Ollie getting two apiece.

Both teams finished with three errors.

This is Cheyenne’s second Class ‘A’ state title. They also won it back in 2016.
