The Wheatland girl basketball team is off to a 5-2 start and now the real play begins after the 1st of the year. There's no shortage of motivation for this year as the Bulldogs missed the 3A State Tournament last season despite an 18-9 record.

Wheatland had been paced by freshman Lily Anderson and senior Lily Nichols. Anderson has been averaging 15 points a game while Nichols is throwing in 14 a game. Nichols has signed a letter of intent for track at the University of Wyoming and placed in the top 3 in four events at the 3A State Outdoor Track Meet, winning the long jump. She also played volleyball and played golf in the fall semester of 2023.

Wheatland also has a capable senior in Kacey Otero so this group has the pieces to be very competitive in 2023-24. We talked with Nichols and Otero after their win last month over Burns in the Douglas Tournament. A win is a win!
