The Wyoming Girls All-Star Basketball team broke through on Saturday in Billings with an 81-75 win over Montana with some gritty play in the 4th quarter. Elyn Bowers of Pinedale, who is the Gatorade Player of the Year in Wyoming, led the way with 21 points and hit a remarkable 9 of 10 free throws down the stretch to seal the win. The Wyoming victory broke a 16-game losing streak in the series. In the first game of the series in Gillette, Bowers had 15 points and displayed a well-rounded game, with plenty of assists. Team Wyoming played well on Friday, but Montana pulled away with a 91-80 win.

Bowers, this past season, was a scoring machine for Pinedale, averaging 25.9 points per game with a season high of 47 vs. Mountain View. She rang up 33 points in 4 other games and shot a blistering 52% from the field for the season. She averaged 24 points per game in her junior season and had five games with 31 points or more. Bowers was a rare four-time All-State selection in 3A and has signed with Eastern Washington University.

Speaking of players who could score, Campbell County's Kaylie Neary added some punch to the Wyoming All-Star attack. Every little bit helps, and Neary is a two-time 4A All-State selection for the Camels and led 4A in scoring this past season, averaging 18.3 points per game. She had a pair of 32-point games and a 30-point effort. Campbell County finished 3rd at the 2025 State Tournament and 2nd in 2024.

We had a chance to talk with Bowers and Neary after their loss to Montana on Friday at the Pronghorn Center in Gillette. They were upbeat and ready for the 2nd leg of the series in Billings the following night.
