PhotoFest! Tongue River Repeats as 2A Girls Basketball State Champs
Tongue River was a powerhouse in 2A Girls Basketball from 1976-2015 under Head Coach Dianne Moser. The Eagles may be starting a new dynasty with back-to-back State Championships following a 61-47 victory over Wyoming Indian on Saturday in Casper. Tongue River posted 25 wins this season with just one loss and was a solid team all the way around.
The Eagles had a productive 2nd quarter and put the game away with a dominating performance in the 4th quarter as they outscored the Lady Chiefs 22-10. Tongue River made 13 of 17 free throws, which made up for 6-24 from the 3 point line. Junior Chaney Reish asserted herself with 21 points and 10 rebounds and sophomore Afton Cummins turned in a sensational effort with 17 points and 15 rebounds. McKinlee Scammon was in double figures with 13 so that shows you what kind of talent this team has.
Wyoming Indian lobbed the ball over the top of the Tongue River defense to Taya Dixey and Delaney Gambler which produced big-time results. Gambler was 8-10 from the floor and led the Chiefs with 16 while Dixey had a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Freshman Paisley Blackburn has a ton of potential and she added 10 for the Wyoming Indian cause. The Lady Chiefs wrapped up the season 21-9.
