Cheyenne Central was ranked #1 in 4A Basketball for a good portion of the season and came into the State Tournament as the #2 seed from the East with a loss to Laramie in the regional final. The Tribe atoned for that defeat with a 62-59 win over the Plainsmen on Saturday in Casper to take home the championship trophy.

Central had an explosive combination of offensive-minded players so putting points on the board wasn't a problem with this group. Senior Chase Talich threw in 27 points in their opening-round win over Riverton with senior Joe Sawyer adding 18. In the Tribe's semi-final round game vs. Natrona, senior Sam Shumway poured in 28 with Talich contributing 11. Then in the title game vs. Laramie, it was Sawyer leading the way with 19, and Talich came through with 18.

Central rang up 25 wins this season and redeemed themselves for missing the 4A State Tournament a year ago with a record of 16-9.  We talked with Talch and Sawyer after Saturday's battle with Laramie and winning doesn't come easy.
