The Powell boys basketball team started the 2023-24 season with a win and finished the campaign with a win. Plus, the Panthers did not lose a game inbetween and an undefeated season in boys basketball is rare in Wyoming.

Powell came through with a 49-34 win over Wheatland in the 3A State Championship game in Casper on Saturday with good shooting from the field and a convincing edge in rebounding.

The Panthers started the 3A State Tournament with a 31 point win over Rawlins and fought through a tough shooting night to down Buffalo 50-43 in the semi-final round. In the title game vs. Wheatland, Gunner Erickson led the way with 14 and he was solid for the entire tournament. Same thing goes for Brock Johnson who was 5-7 from the field on Saturday and finished with 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Powell's last State Championship was way back in 1998 and posted their 4th straight winning season. This senior class has provided a lot of spark for Powell athletics in general, including Legion Baseball.

We talked with Brock Johnson and Gunnar Erickson after the championship game vs. Wheatland a lot of hard work went into this.
