Nordic Skiing – High Plains – Casper Mountain Junior Nationals Qualifier & WHSAA race

For the second straight week, cross-country skiers are back in Casper for competition. This race was originally slated for December 2021 but was postponed due to a lack of snow.

The races this weekend serve a dual purpose. Skiers can qualify for the junior nationals based on their age group and time or just compete for the high school season.

A 5km classic race will start at noon on Friday. That’s followed by a 5km skate or freestyle race on Saturday at 10 a.m.

These races are hosted by Kelly Walsh and will include the teams of Cody/Sheridan, Jackson, Lander, Laramie, Natrona County, and Pinedale.

All the skiing will be on the Casper Mountain Trails Center.

Finley Klinger from Kelly Walsh (23:14.22) and Tristan Smith of Laramie (21:09.97) won the high school varsity races.

Others chose to race for Jr. National Qualifying.

Hailie Wilhelm of Natrona County (18:38.59) and Tristan Smith of Laramie (16:08.00) won the high school races.

Other skiers raced in the JNQ.
