The second state championships for Wyoming High School softball are in Gillette this week.

The 2022 season comes to an end with an eight-team, double-elimination, state tournament at the Energy Capital Sports Complex.

Fields No. 1 and No. 2, the two closest to the parking lot at the complex will be used to play games. These fields face southeast and southwest in Gillette.

Two programs, Green River and Laramie qualified for the first time in their school history.

Seeding is based on each team’s conference record. There were two ties in the conference standings. Laramie earned the No. 4 seed from the East Conference over Cheyenne East thanks to a split of conference games against Thunder Basin, while the Thunderbirds were 0-2 against the Bolts. In the West Conference, Kelly Walsh earned the No. 2 seed over Rock Springs, based on fewer runs allowed in conference games (52 vs. 79).
