Thunder Basin all-star wrestler Antonio Avila has found a home to continue his career on the mat and that will be in Laramie at the University of Wyoming. Avila is one of 30 competitors that won 4 state championships in their career in Wyoming high school wrestling.

In 2024, Avila won the 4A state title at 144 pounds beating Dylan Goss of Sheridan in the championship match and finished the year at 39-0. As a junior, Avila went 46-0 and defeated Goss in the 3A 138 pound title match.

He went 42-5 in his sophomore season, capturing the 4A 126 pound crown with a victory over Jerrad Smith from Kelly Walsh for the championship and way back in 2021, Avila won state championship #1 with 4A title win over Darren Provost of Campbell County at 113 pounds.

Avila earned All-American status twice at the National High School Championships in Virginia Beach taking 6th in 2024 at 138 pounds and 4th in 2023 at 132 pounds. He was also a member of the Thunder Basin football team with 2 receiving touchdowns and a rushing TD in his senior season.
