Day two of the Wyoming High School State Championship Volleyball tournament continues with play in the Class 2A bracket in Casper on Thursday.

With COVID protocols in place, all four classes will be held over four different days. This means teams will play all their state tournament matches within one day instead of spread over three days.

Sundance won the title in 2019 with a three-set sweep of Wind River. They have won two of the last three Class 2A championships and have five in school history, including a Class A crown in 1973.

The Bulldogs and Cougars will rematch in the first round of the 2020 state tournament. There are no other rematches from a year ago. Five of the eight teams in this year’s field were part of the state tournament in 2019.

There are two other first-round matches that pit teams against each other that played in the regular season. Shoshoni and Glenrock faced each other on Oct. 9 in Shoshoni, and the Wranglers prevailed in a three-set sweep, 25-16, 25-17, and 25-23. The other rematch is between Riverside and Tongue River. The Eagles handed the Rebels their only loss this year on Sept. 5 in Dayton. Tongue River won a 3-2 match by scores of 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-25, and 15-13. That was just the second match of the season for Riverside and the third of the year for the Eagles.

Here’s a breakdown of the teams by matchup:

Riverside = 19-1 overall record; hasn’t won a volleyball state championship

Tongue River = 9-10 overall record; 4 titles in school history (all in Class 2A from 1993-96)
