More than a few star track athletes from Wyoming competed in huge national meets from coast to coast this month and there were some stellar performances turned in. On top of the list was Valerie Jirak from Star Valley who won the heptathlon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in Eugene, Oregon. She placed first in the 200-meter dash at 24.73, the high jump at 5-4, the long jump going 19-2, and the 800-meter run in 2.18.16. Her point total of 5201 was a personal best by close to 300 points. Jirak won the 4A State Championship in the high jump and was 2nd in the long jump.

Gavin Stafford from Big Horn was in the Brooks PR meet in Seattle and took 6th in the 100-meter dash in 10.70.  He set the overall record at the Wyoming State Outdoor Track Meet in that event at 10.31 and also set the 2A record in the long jump.

Buffalo's Carly Norman was the Nike Outdoor Nationals and was 4th in the Emerging Elite Division of the 100 hurdles in 14.80 and was 20th in the long jump, going 16.375. Norman was 2nd in the 3A 100 hurdles at State and 4th in the long jump.

Star Valley's Jase Burton competed in the 2-mile at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia with a time of 9.06.20 which was good enough for 10th place. He was 2nd in the 3200 and 5th in the 1600 at the 4A State Meet.

A large group of athletes from Thunder Basin competed in the Nike National and the Bolts 4x400 relay team of Bradley Eckstrom, Bridger Norton, Cameron Pilcher, and Nolan Hottell took 4th in 3.21.26. That group won the 4A State Championship in that event back in May, Eckstrom by the way was 20th in the 400-meter dash at the Nike Meet in 49.15 and Norton placed 29th in the 200 in 22.09. TB's Ashley Rogge competed in the high jump and her best effort was 5-1.25

Also, in the Nike Meet Eugene were Cheyenne Central's Tegan Krause and Race Morrell. Krause was 28th in the 200-meter Emerging Elite division in 22.52 and 48th in the 100 with a clocking of 11.30. At the 4A State Outdoor Meet, Krause was 2nd in the 100 and the 400. Morrell was in the 800-meter championship division in Oregon and was 57th with a time of 1.58.13. He was 46th in the Emerging Elite Mile in 4.22.13 and placed 6th in the 800, 4th in the 1600, and 2nd in the 3200 at the State Meet in Casper. Also, Central's Adalyn Racines was in the freshman 800 at the New Balance Meet placing 58th with a time of 2.28.47.

A pair of Laramie athletes were in that New Balance meet with Flynn Arnold running in the Championship 400 and taking 48th in 49.03. He was 3rd in the 4A 400 at the Wyoming State Championships. Flint Hartsky ran in the freshman mile and took 51st in 4.38.20 and the 2-mile in 9.58.67 which was good for 39th.

Jackson's Rebecca Griebel was in the Emerging Elite division of the triple jump at the Nike meet going 35-1.75 which placed her 16th. She was 4th in the 2024 4A triple jump at the State Meet.
