1A Boys Basketball State Tournament Day One Recaps

The two-day Class 1A boys basketball state championships are going on in Casper.

WyoPreps is summarizing each game to keep you updated on the game action at Casper College and the Ford Wyoming Center.

Game 5: Upton 73 Dubois 31 (semifinal #1)

The Upton Bobcats are back in the boys' title game for the first time since 2016 after a 73-31 blowout of Dubois in the 1A semifinals in Casper on Wednesday night.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 13-3 lead and never let up. It was 17-7 after the first quarter. Upton led 34-13 by halftime. The lone quarter that Dubois scored in double figures was the third, but they still trailed, 53-25, at the end of the third. Upton outscored the Rams 20-6 over the final eight minutes.

The Bobcats shot 58.5 percent for the game. Luca Brooks scored 20 points to lead three Upton players in double figures.

Dubois got 20 points from Max Claar in the loss. The Rams struggled shooting. They were 24.5 percent from the field and just 1-11 from deep.

Upton advances to the 1A championship against Saratoga. That game is at 5 p.m. on Thursday.

Game 6: Saratoga 44 Southeast 33 (semifinal #2)

The Saratoga Panthers will get a chance to defend their title after beating Southeast 44-33 in the semifinals of the 1A boys state tournament on Wednesday night in Casper.

The Panthers led for most of the game, but their lead seemed to bounce between three and six or seven points until the end. Saratoga led 12-7 after the first period. The Cyclones cut it to four, 23-19, at halftime. The Panthers shot 56 percent in the first half compared to only 32 percent for Southeast. The Cyclones got as close as three in the fourth quarter, but then wen the last 3:36 without a point, as Saratoga pulled away.

Teegan Love paced the Panthers with 14 points, while Gavin Bartlett scored 13 points. Saratoga out-rebounded Southeast 31-21. They shot 43 percent for the game.

The Cyclones were led by Bodie Herring with 14 points, but they managed only 35 percent shooting.

Saratoga will take on Upton in the 1A boys' championship at 5 p.m. on Thursday at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper.

Game 1: Dubois 65 Kaycee 58

Ryan and Jaryd Wells combined for 41 points and helped the Dubois Rams reach the semifinals for the first time since 2005, thanks to a 65-58 win over Kaycee in first-round state tournament action in Casper.

Dubois took an early lead and never relinquished it. The Rams had a 16-12 lead at the end of the first period, and it was 33-28 at halftime. Dubois stretched its lead to a dozen, at 41-29, in the third. It was 49-41 after the third period. Kaycee tried to rally. The Buckaroos got within five points with a minute left, but that's as close as they would get. Dubois closed it out at the free-throw line.

Ryan Wells scored 23 points. Jaryd Wells finished with 18, and Clayton Rux added 10 for the Rams. Dubois shot 44 percent in the game. They were 16-26 at the foul line.

Kaycee was led by Harley Davis with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Ethan Devlin added 17 points. The Buckaroos shot 45 percent from the floor, but they had 23 turnovers.

Dubois will face Upton in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Game 2: Upton 73 Burlington 62

Three Upton Bobcats scored in double figures, as they defeated Burlington 73-62, in first-round Class 1A state tournament action in Casper.

Upton jumped out to a 17-2 lead and never trailed in the game. It was 20-9 after the first quarter and 34-21 Bobcats at halftime. The Huskies closed within seven points early in the third quarter, but Upton responded and stretched their lead back to 15 points, at 54-39. In the fourth, the Bobcats pushed it to 59-42 before Burlington rallied and closed within nine at the end.

Brayden Bruce scored 18 points to lead Upton. Jess Claycomb had 17 and Luca Brooks added 15 points. The Bobcats shot 46 percent from the floor and made 11 triples.

Burlington was led by Kody Gotfredson with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Huskies shot 40 percent for the game. They also had 15 turnovers.

Upton will play Dubois in the semifinals at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Game 3: Southeast 47 Farson-Eden 34

Southeast pulled away in the fourth quarter to beat Farson-Eden 47-34 in the quarterfinals of the 1A boys' state basketball championships.

It was a defensive slugfest for the first three periods. The Pronghorns held a 9-7 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Both teams scored nine points in second, and Farson-Eden held an 18-16 lead at halftime. The game went back-and-forth in the third with Southeast gaining a 30-29 edge entering the fourth. The Cyclones controlled the final frame and pulled away for the 13-point victory.

The game had 11 lead changes and was tied six times.

Southeast was paced by Hayden Anderson with 16 points. Sawyer Anderson added 11. the Cyclones shot 40 percent from the field and enjoyed a 36-22 edge in rebounding. Southeast overcame 21 turnovers in the game.

Colby Jones scored 13 points to lead Farson-Eden, while Parker Clawson contributed 12. The Pronghorns shot just 31 percent and went 0-15 from beyond the arc.

Southeast advances to the semifinals versus Saratoga at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.

Game 4: Saratoga 68 Guernsey-Sunrise 33

The defending champion Panthers jumped all over the Vikings and rolled to a 68-33 first-round win at the 1A boys' basketball state tournament.

It was 17-4 after the first quarter and Saratoga stretched it to 30-4 in the second. It was 34-8 Panthers at halftime. The lead reached 35 points in the second half before the final margin.

Teegan Love led Saratoga with 20 points. The Panthers shot 40 percent from the floor and out-rebounded Guernsey-Sunrise 56-34.

The Vikings were led by Brock Hohnholt with 11 points. Guernsey shot just 22.6 percent for the game.

Saratoga will play in the semifinals against Southeast at 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
