Wyoming High School cross country teams make their 2026 season debut during the last weekend of the month. The first race will occur in Afton on Thursday with a mix of Wyoming, Idaho, and Utah schools. Three teams will compete out of state on Thursday. Casper, Green River, Newcastle, and Pavillion host events on Friday. Some teams will head to a cross-country race in Montana. The last two teams will race in Colorado on Saturday.

WYOPREPS WEEK 1 HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY SCHEDULE IN 2026

This is the Week 1 cross country schedule. All schedules are subject to change.

Thursday, Aug. 27:

More Cowbell Invitational in Afton, WY – Evanston, Jackson, Lyman, Mountain View, Star Valley; Out-of-state – Box Elder (UT), Firth (ID), Idaho Falls (ID), Shelley (ID), Soda Springs (ID), Sugar-Salem (ID), Teton (ID), West Side (ID).

Kellsie Dunne from Star Valley won the girls' race at 21:11. The Lady Braves swept the top 3 spots in the Gold Division. SV was 1st in the girls' team standings, while Evanston took 4th. In the boys' Gold Division, SV was 2nd, Mountain View was 3rd, Jackson was 4th, and Evanston was 5th.

Out-of-State Events:

Horizon Invitational in Brighton, CO – Cheyenne Central

Central swept the individual titles. Adalyn Racines and Cal Bibbey took first place. Bibbey set a course record at 15:34.48. Both Indian squads finished 3rd.

Panhandle Classic in Scottsbluff, NE – Cheyenne South, Torrington.

Cole Tregemba from Torrington finished 2nd in the boys' race. South boys took 3rd as a team.

 

Friday, Aug. 28:

Green River Invite – Green River, Rock Springs.

Aria Wheeler won the girls' race. Jesse Kimble took 1st in the boys' race. In the team standings, Rock Springs won both.

Kelly Walsh Bear Trap Invitational on Casper Mountain – Campbell County, Casper Christian, Douglas, Glenrock, Kelly Walsh, Lander, Natrona County, Pine Bluffs, Rawlins, Rock River, Sheridan, Thermopolis, Thunder Basin, Wheatland, Wyoming Indian.

Lexi Longhurst from KW won the girls' division by nearly a minute. Eli Balkenbush dominated the boys' race by 1:19 with a course record.

Girls Team Scores = KW 39, Thunder Basin 41, Sheridan 57, Lander 87, Campbell County 129.

Boys Team Scores = Sheridan 30, Thunder Basin 71, KW 88, Rawlins 105, Douglas 143, Lander 160, Glenrock 177, Campbell County 182, Burns/Pine Bluffs 254.

Newcastle Mallo Camp Invite – Hulett, Lusk, Moorcroft, Newcastle, Sundance, Wright.

Tess Dailey from Sundance won the girls' race, and Haydon Ritchie from Hulett won the boys' race.

Wind River XC Invite – Arapaho Charter, Ft. Washakie, Wind River.

Winners were Ellora Walker and Kaycee McCabe.

Out-of-State Events:

Billings Invitational in Billings, MT – Big Horn, Buffalo, Burlington, Cody, Lovell, Powell, Rocky Mountain, Tongue River, Worland.

Lyla Marney from Big Horn placed 8th. Jace Townsend from Buffalo finished 9th. Cody girls were 3rd, and the Buffalo boys took 7th.

 

Saturday, Aug. 29:

Out-of-State Events:

John Martin XC Invite in Fort Collins, CO – Cheyenne East, Laramie

Maggie Madsen from Cheyenne East placed 4th. Dorothy Jensen and Flora Caputo-Wilkowski from Laramie were 7th and 9th, respectively. Cole Zimmerman from Laramie was the best finisher from Wyoming. He placed 23rd. Laramie was 2nd in the girls' standings and 6th in the boys' standings.
