Two seniors capped their careers in style, and a freshman made his mark, as the trio won individual titles at the 2025 Wyoming High School Cross Country State Championship last Saturday in Cheyenne. Star Valley’s Colton Cranney won the 4A boys’ division. Ethan Rayo of Buffalo captured the 3A boys, and Kellen Winters of Burlington took first in the 2A boys. The championships were held at the Little America Golf Course and Resort. WyoPreps caught up with all three winners after their races.

WYOPREPS 2025 CROSS COUNTRY STATE CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

Cranney made it four straight individual titles for the Star Valley Braves. The senior held off a tough field for the victory. He crossed the finish line at 15:59.8, about six seconds ahead of the next competitor. Cranney joined former teammates Habtamu Wetzel and Jase Burton from SVHS, who won the previous three title races, as a state champ. Lucas Steveson of Cheyenne East took second at 16:04.4. He was followed by Sheridan’s Eli Balkenbush at 16:12.4. In fourth place was Aden Zwonitzer of East at 16:39.1. Aadan Luna of Sheridan placed fifth at 16:43. The Sheridan Broncs captured the team crown at 57 points. It was their second team championship in school history and first since 2019. Star Valley was second, Cheyenne East was third, and Kelly Walsh finished fourth. The full results for 4A boys are below.

Class 3A Cross Country State Championship Recap 2025

Buffalo senior Ethan Rayo pulled away from the competition to win the 3A title. His time was 16:44. He won by just over 21 seconds. He is the first boys’ individual champion from Buffalo High School. Sam Cunningham of Newcastle made a late push for second at 17:05.4. He edged past Colt Madsen from Mountain View, who took third at 17:05.6. Jace Townsend of Buffalo placed fourth at 17:20.1, and Logan Milek from Lander came in fifth at 17:28.1. Mountain View won its third team title in school history and first since 2022, with 52 points. Buffalo came in second, Rawlins was third, and Worland was fourth. The full results for 3A boys are below.

Class 2A Cross Country State Championship Recap 2025

Burlington freshman Kellen Winters rolled to a comfortable victory in the 2A boys’ race. He crossed the line at 16:36.4, which was nearly a minute ahead of the next runner. He became the third boys’ winner in school history. Tobyn Teigen from Wright was the runner-up at 17:30.2. Defending champ Jadeth Elder from Thermopolis finished third at 17:39.9. Connor Hoyt of Burlington took fourth place at 17:44.5. Cameron Guelde from Big Horn was fifth at 17:56.8. The Burlington Huskies won the team title with 25 points. It was their third in school history and third in the last four years. Wyoming Indian was second, followed by Thermopolis and Big Horn. The full results from 2A boys are below.

2025 Wyoming HS Cross Country State Championships

The 2025 Wyoming High School Cross Country State Championships were contested on October 25 at Little America Golf Course in Cheyenne, WY.
