A couple of teams from the West faced off for the 3A State title in boys basketball at the Ford Center last Thursday with Worland prevailing over Mountain View 55-49. Worland came in as a #1 seed from the West and Mountain View was the 4th seed. Mountain View upset Rawlins in the first round by 2 points and beat Buffalo by 5 in the semi-finals.  Worland on the other hand took care of Wheatland in round one and beat a tough Lander team by 10 in the semi-final round.

The championship game was entertaining, to say the least with 12 ties and 9 lead changes. Worland trailed 47-41 in the 2nd quarter but made some big hoops down the stretch combined with some timely defensive stops. The Warriors also made it to the free-throw line a whopping 32 times and made 17. They were led in scoring by Mack Page with 23 with Sanford contributing 15. That 1-2 punch from the Warriors made it tough on Mountain View. No wonder this team went 20-3 in the 2020-21 campaign.

Mountain View got a fabulous game from Luke Branson who had 25 on 10 of 17 from the field but the Buffaloes were just 3-11 from the 3 point line. Mountain View was one win away from their first state title since 1977 but finished the year 16-8. Worland wins a title for the first time since 2016. The Warrior's previous state title was back in the early days of Wyoming high school basketball; 1921!

Be sure and take a look at the video we have from that exciting game in Casper back on Thursday.
